Safeguarding and Child Protection at Uplands
At The International School of Penang (Uplands), we are deeply committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where every student can thrive. This commitment is a shared responsibility among all staff, and we encourage the active involvement of our wider community in maintaining a secure environment for everyone. The welfare of each child is paramount, and our guiding statements reflect our proactive and diligent approach to safeguarding, ensuring protection from exploitation, abuse, or harm. As part of our safe school commitment and in alignment with our dedication to child wellbeing, if we become aware of any concerns regarding child abuse, including physical punishment, we will take immediate and appropriate actions to protect the child.
Our Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy and Procedure Handbook provides a clear framework and guiding principles for all members of the school community to protect the students in our care. This handbook is rooted in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, to which Malaysia is a signatory, and aligns with the Malaysian Child Act 2001 (Act 611), which legally prohibits any form of abuse, neglect, or harm to children. As part of this mandate, Uplands is committed to collaborating with Malaysian and international agencies to uphold the best interests of the child.
As an accredited member of the Council of International Schools (CIS), Uplands adheres to the highest international standards in child safeguarding, both within and outside the school environment, and throughout the recruitment process. We also draw upon the ISCA Safeguarding Framework, CIS Safeguarding Framework, and the Global Safeguarding Framework to inform our practices, ensuring clear, effective, and safe procedures to protect the health and wellbeing of all students.
At Uplands, we take all concerns seriously and are dedicated to listening and responding promptly.
To report any concerns, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead or the respective Heads of School immediately.
